In 1914 a group of Billings businessmen got together and decided to create what would become the Billings Golf and Country Club. Having purchased an 80-acre tract of land just northwest of what used to be the Billings Polytechnic Institute, work got under way swiftly and within a year a nine-hole course was created. Although the club changed ownership several times throughout the next few decades, the Billings Golf and Country Club remained one of the city’s most popular social spots.
In 1948 the Billings Club members assumed ownership, and quickly sought a new location to build a new course. Over the next ten years, the club would move west into the valley below the rimrocks, hired Robert Trent Jones as the course architect, and changed its name to Yellowstone Country Club.
Under the scenic rimrocks, and with a beautiful view of the Beartooth Mountains, the Yellowstone Country Club continues to be one of the treasure state’s premier championship level golf courses.
