Golf in Whitefish goes back nearly 100 years to the 1920s when the first few holes in town were laid out by several dedicated residents. In the 1930s Whitefish received funding from the WPA that ultimately helped finish the development of the nine-hole course. The only initial stipulation was that the land double as an emergency landing site for airplanes.
By the 1960s the Whitefish Lake Golf Club added another nine holes to make 18, and it wouldn’t be long before the Whitefish Lake Golf Association was looking to add more. By the early 1990s the course had added another 18 holes to make it one of two 36-hole facilities in the state of Montana.
A very popular golf destination in Northwest Montana, the Whitefish Lake North Course and South Course are both exceptionally maintained with plenty of pine trees lining the fairways. As to be expected the scenery is absolutely stunning and occasional wildlife might meander through.
One of the premier tournament locations in the state, the Whitefish Lake Golf Club has hosted a number of state events, as well as their longstanding 4th of July Tournament that draws out some of the best golfers in the region.
