In 1980 after several years of contemplating the idea, Elmer Link built a golf course on land in Huntley that had been in the Link family since 1906. The original 18-hole course was designed by Link and his friend and PGA Member Johnny Walker. The Pryor Creek Golf Club, which is named after the creek that flows through the land, was ready to open in June of 1981. Just two days before the grand opening, the folks at Pryor Creek had a wrench thrown in their plans as the clubhouse burned down, with the suspicion being arson. Not to be discouraged, Link moved a mobile home to the course to act as a temporary clubhouse while a new one was built and proceeded to open up business. Starting as an 18-hole course, Link and Walker continued the vision and built another nine holes in 1992, and in 2007 yet another nine holes were added to the course, making it one of only two 36-hole facilities in the state of Montana. Being a semi-private complex, the Elmer Link Course is for members and their guests, while the Johnny Walker Course is open to the public.
From the very beginning the Pryor Creek Golf Club has taken pride in its natural beauty. Pryor Creek has two picturesque courses with elevation changes and panoramic views that showcase nearby bluffs and occasionally golfers might see some animal life by the creek running through the course.
