In June of 1974 a local golfer out of Butte named Bill Swanson was the first person to tee up a shot at the newly created Fairmont Hot Springs Resort Golf Course. Since that time golf has been a popular offering among a myriad of activities that are found by guests at the resort. Fairmont has also hosted a number of MSGA events over the years including the Women’s State Amateur, the men’s Mid-Amateur, and in particular the State Seniors Tournament.
Sitting at the base of the scenic Pintler Mountains, a couple notable features of the course itself includes a third hole that possesses Montana’s largest green, coming in at a whopping 10,000 square feet of putting surface, and two holes later one can expect to encounter the popularly known “mile high, mile-long” par-five fifth hole which is a mile in altitude and a has a green that is 649 yards away from the tee box.
